Sticky Ideas - the event
I have several questions about our intentions around the proposed event. Having been one of the earliest enthusiasts of the idea (ref this Blog), I do hope my questions are not seen as negative. I would like to suggest we have a concept meeting about the event.
- When was the decision made to use the Obs Festival as a date or a platform? Is the Obs Festival the ideal time? Will it serve us best?
- Is the average "Obs Festino" the appropriate audience / client for our project?
- What are the objectives of the event?
- Are our objectives congruous with those of the Obs Fest?
Is there perhaps another forum that may better serve us?
What about a very specifically targeted audience made up of ourselves, our lecturers, our mentors and our guests? An evening with shared wine and snacks, shared ideas and deepening and widening an already strong and valuable network.

What I am Getting from This
Being involved in so many projects like my band and the business I would like to start, the course has helped me to see the endless possibilities of opportunity if the correct steps are taken. Each week when we cram so much information into 3hrs I go back and review the notes, try to apply it to the various projects and find more information around each class. It takes a while to digest the information especially when each day is filled with doing jobs for money, leaving very little time to reflect but I realize the importance of making the most of every minute of each day. My focus has been developing a concrete business plan but each session adds value to the other projects I am involved in. I am always surprised at how much I know when things are being explained to us but knowing something and actually putting it into practice is the key thing here. I have not reached the point yet where I am actually linking each session together but I can definitely see how the one thing cannot work effectively without the other. Special shout out to David Duarte for making this happen for me. Big big love! And Elaine you are tha bomb!!! Your compassion, intellect and kindness has been invaluable to my self belief and confidence.
Active Listening Skills
•
•Here are a couple of points to provoke your thinking from Paul Abrams' workshop on Active Listening Skills.
LISTENING FOR LEARNING
Listen to understand the other’s thinking, assumptions, and point of view, you don’t have to agree
•Check understanding
–Ask questions “This is what I understand…is this right? What do you mean when you say…?
–Ask for examples
•Suspend judgement. Probe for another point of view. Remember there are many right answers
•Ask : are there any other views? What are we missing? What will happen if we go in this direction?
•Listen for the thinking behind the other’s actions
